Room to Room Savings

Kitchen

  1. Defrost refrigerator once a month, vacuum coil on the back.
  2. Give refrigerator the $ bill test.
  3. Use natural light as much as possible.
  4. Turn on the energy-saver switch on the dishwasher.
  5. Wash only full loads in dishwasher.

Living Room

  1. Turn off the TV when no one is watching it.
  2. Shut the door immediately to keep cold air out and warm air in.
  3. Close the windows, except in warm weather when a breeze can reduce your need for air conditioning.
  4. Replace traditional light bulbs with energy-efficient ones.

Laundry

  1. Wash laundry with warm or cool water.
  2. Wash only full loads.
  3. Use lowest dryer setting:remove clothes damp.

Bath

  1. Take a shower instead of a bath.
  2. Use a low-flow shower head to save water.
  3. Take shorter showers.
  4. Use low-flow faucet aerators.

Hallway

  1. Turn off lights when you leave a room fifteen minutes or more.

Bedroom

  1. Use curtains and drapes to keep out cold air or drafts, keep in heat.
  2. Keep furniture away from heating vents.

Basement

  1. Wrap pipes with insulation to reduce heat loss.
  2. Change air filters once a month.
